The long-playing tracks and splits provided crucial means for the group’s prolific activity in the hardcore punk movement through which they were able to develop their abrasive music style and reach out to their listeners via their short and intense songs prior to releasing their LP albums. The use of such music products was instrumental in promoting their music style and themes associated with personal struggles and social criticism. The last EP released by the band before breaking up in 2025 was titled Persona and came out in August 2024 via Blue Grape Music. It was available in the form of a violet vinyl, tape, CD, and digitally. Featuring five songs (“Mirage,” “Shame,” “Persona,” “Martyr,” and “Vanity”), the EP features advanced production techniques and melodies but preserves the blistering speed. The album speaks about one’s sense of identity and the concept of illusion in less than 15 minutes.

Breakthrough releases and touring (2020–2022)
Gel came out with their second EP Violent Closure in 2021 on the record label Atomic Action! Records. This album brought about a drastic change in terms of sound for the band, which is characterized by the fast pace and the more aggressive production style they had adopted since their powerviolence-inspired hardcore music started gaining traction.
This progress was carried forward by the mid-year 2022 release of the split mini album “Shock Therapy” along with Romanian punk band Cold Brats, which saw the light of day on August 12 via Convulse Records. The split mini album contained four songs by Gel: “Mental Static,” “Predominant Mask,” “Vibefucker,” and “Guided Meditation,” each characterized by a fierce D-beat drumming and aggressive vocals, proving that Gel was fond of international punk collaboration and crust punk music elements.
Major albums and rising prominence (2023–2024)
The first GEL full-length album titled Only Constant came out on March 31, 2023, courtesy of Convulse Records, signifying a significant rise above their former efforts through an even more professional yet rougher hardcore sound. The album features an intense groove-oriented style of music featuring stomping rhythms, sharp riffs, and perfectly produced distortion that gained great recognition for creating songs which captured their energetic live performances. According to Kerrang!, it is “one of the most exciting hardcore records in recent years,” capturing both the intense energy and cathartic nature of the album.
Disbandment (2025)
On March 19, 2025, hardcore punk band Gel made the announcement of their break up through Instagram by stating that they were no longer a band, which led to their cancellation of all planned shows such as Coachella 2025 and touring with Spiritbox, Volbeat, and Anxious.
Studio albums
Only Constant is the only studio album by Gel, released on March 31, 2023, via Convulse Records, after which the project gained momentum based on their previous EPs. The work contains ten songs lasting 16 minutes and 29 seconds, presenting listeners with a short but strong hardcore punk album featuring smooth guitar riffs and intense, reflective atmosphere in the vein of their earlier rough music. The album recording sessions took place from January to June 2022 in Landmine Studios in Michigan. The engineers were Trish Quigley and drummer of the group Zachary Miller.
